The HassleLess Mattress employee-free experiment began in 2014, with a safe and approachable showroom, unique signage, QR codes, an easy-to-navigate website, and a call center where you talk to a real person.
“It’s something we started thinking about when a perfect storm disrupted the mattress industry,” says Weston Huth, co-owner of HassleLess Mattress. A certain mattress chain was popping up on nearly every street corner at the same time Internet start-ups began selling mattresses in boxes online. Neither seemed like the right solution to us, so we created our own hybrid of the two that we believe is the best of both worlds.
“At first, it does sound too good to be true,” says Erin Borofka, co-owner of HassleLess Mattress. Borofka states, once clients see for themselves that there are no employees in the showroom, they love it, and they tell their family and friends to check it out.”
HassleLess, whose showroom doors open and close on timed, electronic locks, quickly grew from one to eight stores in the Milwaukee area, and with that education and success, we moved into Illinois and opened our first showroom in our original Skokie location in 2017. We have since closed that location and during the Fall of 2020, we opened 12 new showrooms in IL. Our newest Skokie location has a larger space to provide clients with an inventory of the top mattress brands (Tempur-Pedic, Sealy Posturepedic, Beautyrest, Purple, Serta Perfect Sleeper, and Nectar) to try hassle-free. “Once a person visits one of our showrooms or checks out our website, and they see we’re for real, we’re easy, and we’re cheaper, they’ll love what we have to offer,” says Borofka.
